SERIES 7
EUROPEAN SUPERSTARS
Series 7 was done to coincide with the EURO 2000 tournament, with the series split into an England Squad series and a European SuperStars series.
The European SuperStars series consists of 12 figures, included amongst them are 4 first time sculpts, which are Luis Enrique in Spain home kit,, Vladimir Smicer in Czech Republic home kit and Thomas Sorensen in Denmark kit, with Sorensen never again being released by Corinthian. Paolo Maldini also made his Corinthian ProStars debut, with this sculpt used for many subsequent releases of the player.
We have a fresh sculpt of Oliver Bierhoff in Germany kit, along side Henrik Larsson for Sweden, the sculpt the same as the series 5 figure. Tore Andre Flo is in Norway kit, and Emmanuel Petit is in France home kit, both being the same sculpt as seen in Series 2.
Dennis Bergkamp is in Holland home kit, the sculpt gets it's first blister release after first appearing in the Arsenal 1999-2000 team pack. Manuel Rui Costa got his first ProStars release, the sculpt the same as seen in the Headliners range, the same applies for Dan Petrescu for Romania and Gilles De Bilde for Belgium, both first appeared in the Headliners range but this would be their only outing in the ProStars range.
Series 7 European Superstars blister packs were available from collector centres from 12th May 2000, with blisters priced at £3 each. Included in each pack was the figures collector card, one side has the figure image and the other has the player ratings, which you could fill in to create your own version of a top trumps style card game.
Corinthian reintroduced the redemption figure for this series, with 4 different redemption figures on offer. Beckham, Owen and Shearer are in England red away kit, while Emmanuel Petit is in white France away kit, with just 6 tokens needed to claim a free redemption figure.
Along with the regular blister packs, Corinthian produced something special called the Platinum Pack, these were produced in much lower numbers and not available for direct sale, they were given away free for money spent with Corinthian Direct, however you could also buy them from official Corinthian Collector Centres. The figures are identical to those in the standard blister but are placed on a specially designed blister card.
Corinthian did not make public how many of each blister pack or platinum pack were produced, only to say that the best seller in the series was Paolo Maldini and the one made in the lowest volume was Gilles De Bilde
