FA CUP WINNERS 2005/06

The 2006 FA Cup final took place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff; Wales, on the 13th May 20056, as we say Liverpool take on West Ham United.

As the clock ticked past 90 minutes, The Hammers were leading 3-2 and on the cusp of a historic win, up step Steven Gerrard who rattled in an unstoppable strike from 35 yards out which left Shaka Hislop with no chance of saving, to send the game into extra time.

 

 

30 more minutes could not split the teams, so the game went to penalties, with Liverpool emerging victorious 3-1, thanks to successful penalties from Hamann, Gerrard and Riise.

 

 

30th October 2006 saw Corinthian release the Liverpool FA Cup Winners 2005/06 pack, which features 6 figures in the Liverpool 2005/06 kit. The 6 chosen are goal keeper Pepe Reina, Sami Hyypia, Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch, Djibril Cisse and John Arne Riise, with the pack having an original retail price of £20.

 

 

The highlight  of the pack was not a figure, but the mini replica FA Cup Trophy! The inclusion of the replica trophy certainly added a touch of class to the pack and broadened the packs appeal to even more collectors. The mini replica FA Cup trophy was not assigned a collector code.

 

 

As was the case with the Arsenal FA Cup winners pack this would also prove to be an instant collector's item and a pack which has always remained in high demand and appreciated in value over the years and very seldom seen for sale.

 

 

Corinthian produced 2006 packs, each one came with the 6 figures, 6 collector cards and the mini replica FA Cup trophy. There was sadly no certificate of authenticity and no Platinum Packs were produced for this release,  which i felt was a missed opportunity and i personally would have loved to have seen a mini replica FA Cup trophy as a Platinum Pack.
